Why Us

We are keenly aware that assembling a team of experienced and battle-tested advisors, who are experts in shareholder activism, is pivotal to a company’s shareholder activism defense. Here are some reasons why we believe a company should consider having us join its team:

Extensive experience advising on shareholder activism preparedness and defense:

Gottfried Shareholder Advisory was founded by Keith Gottfried, a highly experienced and trusted advisor to public companies, the C-suite, and boards of directors on shareholder activism preparedness and defense,  Over the course of a career that spans over 30 years, working at some of the country's most prominent firms, Keith has advised numerous public companies on shareholder activism preparedness and defense, including in connection with high-profile proxy contests, special meeting demands, consent solicitations, and unsolicited acquisition proposals.  Prior to launching Gottfried Shareholder Advisory, Keith led the shareholder activism defense practice at a large global law firm.

Strong collaborative relationships with other shareholder activism advisors:

We strive to cultivate and maintain strong collaborative relationships with other advisors that advise companies on shareholder activism preparedness and defense, including leading investment banks, proxy solicitation firms, and public relations firms, so we can bring to clients a comprehensive, strategic, and coordinated approach to preparing for and responding to an activist investor.

Broad industry experience:

While we are industry agnostic, we understand that shareholder activism preparedness and defense should be adapted based on a client’s industry and know how to pivot our approach to be industry specific.  We also bring to clients Keith’s experience advising public companies across a wide array of industries, including the apparel, automobile parts, banking, casual dining, closed-end mutual fund, consumer product, defense, energy, entertainment, financial services, healthcare, information technology, insurance, life science, manufacturing, medical equipment, natural resources, pharmaceutical, REIT, retail, semiconductor, shipping, software, and telecommunication industries.
